Company plans to have 1,300 workers at new state headquarters

Verizon Wireless has selected the first group of employees to join its team at the Huntsville Call Center, hiring several human resources professionals who will be recruiting hundreds of employees to fill the new state headquarters.

Connie Howell has been named the center's manager of human resources, field operations.

She previously held the same position at the company's Columbia, S.C., call center.

Joining Howell's team are seven HR professionals: Justin Jesser of Madison, Valerie Villarreal of Athens, and Huntsville residents, Felicia Colley, Karen King, Debra Dunbar, Patricia Moore and Nacole Seldon. Jesser, Villarreal and Colley have taken positions as HR analysts. King, Dunbar and Moore have joined the team as HR consultants.

HUNTSVILLE, Al., Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, began recruiting customer service professionals today to fill its new 152,000 square foot call center and state headquarters, which is under construction. The company broke ground on the center in February, which is located at Thornton Research Park. When fully staffed, 1,300 jobs will be housed in the facility including customer service representatives and supervisors, tech support, government customer service teams, and corporate sales employees.

South Huntsville's Jones Farm neighborhood continues to entice innovative restaurants for North Alabama. Coming soon will be Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Spirits.

The city issued a $1.3 million building permit in December for the new eatery under construction along Carl T. Jones Boulevard on the edge of Valley Bend at Jones Farm. It is in front of Hobby Lobby and Rue 21.

The Huntsville restaurant will be Alabama's second - Montgomery has a Red Robin - with plans for a third one in Bridge Street Town Centre, the shopping complex under construction on the edge of Cummings Research Park along Old Madison Pike.

Red Robin in Jones Valley should be open by summer.
